Shanti Kimono
Details
The Shanti Kantha Jacket by Obidi pairs a tactile wool and silk check with the smooth lustre of a silk collar. Beneath its composed exterior, a vivid printed silk lining appears in flashes of colour when the jacket is worn open, making each piece feel distinctly personal.
Kantha originated in Bengal, across present day India and Bangladesh. Parallel rows of running stitches traditionally joined layers of existing cloth, strengthening the fabric and creating its characteristic quilted surface.
Obidi places this heritage technique in dialogue with the restraint of Japanese tailoring and expressive silks printed in Italian workshops. This exchange of cultures, materials and craftsmanship reflects the nomadic spirit at the heart of House of Nomad Stories.
