Checked Kantha Jacket
Details
The Checked Kantha Jacket by Obidi brings together a tactile wool and silk check, a smooth silk collar and a one of a kind lining made from silk printed in small Italian ateliers. Worn closed, it feels composed and structured. Left open, its vivid interior comes unexpectedly into view.
The design draws from Kantha, a textile tradition originating in Bengal, across present day India and Bangladesh. Historically, layers of existing cotton or silk were joined with parallel rows of running stitches, extending the life of the cloth while creating its distinctive quilted surface.
Obidi places this heritage technique in dialogue with the quiet geometry of the Japanese kimono and Italian textile artistry. This meeting of cultures, craftsmanship and storytelling closely reflects the spirit of House of Nomad Stories.
